Eskine Smith, an eighteen year-old in North Braddock, PA, killed two of his good friends Jonathan Hutson (19) and Daniel Underwood (17) while playing Madden 2006. Another player was at the scene but remained unharmed.
Hutson died in his rear bedroom. Underwood was shot near the front door as if he were trying to escape. Autopsies showed both died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
A "minor squabble" broke out while the players were playing Madden 2006, a police spokesperson told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
"It seemed to be OK," commented Assistant Superintendent James Morton. "Then all of a sudden, something went wrong."
