Nielsen Entertainment surveyed over 2,000 “active gamers” in North America during September. An active gamer is someone who owns a console system and spends at least one hour per week playing it. Here is a summary of some of their conclusions.
Males in the 25-34 age range and Hispanics “represent the most valuable emerging market for video games”. This group has higher budgets for entertainment.
Men outnumber women seventy-six to twenty-four percent in MMOs. In casual online games, men only outnumber women fifty-one to forty-nine percent. Online gaming is on the rise. Fifty-seven percent of active games have played online and twenty-one percent have tried MMOs.
Men average twelve hours of game-playing per week. Twenty-five percent of a gamer’s leisure time is spent playing games.
