Indiana Proposes Video Game Law

Indiana Proposes Video Game Law

None

Despite the opposition that proposed video game legislation always receives, an Indiana senator, Evan Bayh, has announced that he will be introducing legislation that will prevent children under age seventeen from buying violent video games.

“There is a growing body of research that indicates that exposure to graphic violence, graphic sexual content has adverse consequences to kids and their behavior-anger-management issues, violent-behavior issues, frustration, desensitization-things that come back to haunt society as a whole,” explained Bayh.

A federal judge in Michigan has already issued a preliminary injunction against such a law in Michigan and lawsuits have been filed in California and Illinois to prevent similar legislation. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) believes the law is unconstitutionally vague and limits First Amendment rights.
