New York City Official Demands $20K from Sony for Graffiti Ads

None

A few weeks ago, Sony confirmed to the BBC that a series of graffiti drawings in seven cities were done by graffiti artists that they hired in an effort to target “urban nomads.”

Although Sony had the graffiti ads painted on legally licensed walls, Queens Councilman, Peter Vallone Jr., has told the New York Post he wants Sony to take down the ads and pay $20,000 to the city’s anti-graffiti program.

“Children are impressionable, and if they see a wall with graffiti on it and they don’t know that it’s done with permission, it could very well lead them believing that it’s OK for them to do it,” Vallone stated.

Sony is defending its ad campaign, stating that it was just a “different approach to advertising.”
