Tecmo Koei’s Team Ninja has been very, very busy. Besides their work on Ninja Gaiden 3, the development studio has also been slaving away on a Vita-based port of a Ninja Gaiden Sigma title and, as revealed today, the next entry in the long-running Dead or Alive series of high-octane 3D fighters.
Not seen on consoles since Dead or Alive 4, only weeks after the Xbox 360’s launch, Dead or Alive 5 will be making its way to both Microsoft’s system and Sony’s PlayStation 3. Though the trailer shown at TGS was in pre-alpha state, the graphics appear crisp, the animations smooth, and countering looks to be in full effect.
In a rooftop duel between super-ninja Ryu Hayabusa and series whipping-boy-ninja Hayate, the former executes his trademark Izuna Otoshi and rampant teleportation while the latter demonstrates his familiar, acrobatic fighting form. The end of the trailer indicates that, potentially, platform changes might be more cinematic than they’ve been in games past, with Ryu clinging to the edge of the arena after being knocked off. Dead or Alive 5 is slated for a 2012 release.
