Starhawk is finally out, and Dylan Jobe, President of LightBox Interactive, has some good news for the Starhawk fan base. According to his recent post on the official U.S. PlayStation blog, the Starhawk team has made an unprecedented decision regarding future map packs.
“We really didn’t like how in Warhawk when we released a new map pack, it forced these divisions on our players,” Jobe said.“After we released three expansions, our player community was pretty fractured. With Starhawk that ends! We are incredibly excited to announce that all map packs for Starhawk will be free.”
This is one of the only instances of a modern day console shooter offering free map packs for the duration of the game’s life, and that’s rather profound in our current gaming market environment. Jobe has said that the team has already started development on the next map pack, entitled Cypress, and has released some early sketches of the new maps that players will be receiving.
The buzz about Starhawk is so great that Major League Gaming has taken notice. In celebration of the game’s release, they will be holding a tournament with over $20,000 in prizes at stake. Think you have a chance? Then go sign up.
