Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee HD Coming Next Year
Oddworld Inhabitants has announced that it is working on an HD reboot of its classic 1997 platformer, rebuilding Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee from the ground up. Writing on their Facebook page, the developers said: "We decided to reboot [the game], not just an HD update to the original PS1 title, this is a NEW game. It will be getting its first public showing LATER this year, with a release date of NEXT summer (2013)."
After some initial confusion over just how "new" the upcoming title will be, the developers clarified that it is indeed a remake of the original title, but that they "have started it from scratch using the original as a blueprint."
The original Oddworld, Abe's Oddysee was released 15 years ago to high critical acclaim. It tells the tale of the slave Abe, a member of the fictional Mudokon species, who breaks free from his bondage and leads a rebellion against the RuptureFarms corporation, freeing his fellow Mudokon slaves along the way. The series has spawned six titles since Abe's Oddysee's initial release.
