Even though Fez is an amazing indie game, it was, for many people, completely broken. Save files were being corrupted, games were freezing, and glitches were preventing a good portion of the XBLA community form playing the game.
Well, a brand new title update has dropped that has addressed most of these issues. Most of the crashes, glitches, and save file corruption errors have been addressed. Frame drops and poor performance issues have also been addressed. In addition, several exploits have also been removed from the game as well. You can now no longer solve some puzzles before you are supposed to be able to, nor can you infinitely collect cubes at the top of the bell tower.
Unfortunately, following the grand tradition of Street Fighter X Tekken and Skyrim before it, this bug fix has introduced yet more bugs into the game. We are getting reports that the patch is corrupting some save data files that were previously unaffected. This means many of you may have to restart the game, if you are able to. It’s a shame, but I suppose that is the price of progress.
One of these days we will crank out a patch that fixes things without breaking others. One of these days…
