You’d think you wouldn’t need to incentivize people to purchase Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. I mean, this new JRPG is by Level 5, the studio behind Professor Layton, and Studio Ghibli, the animation studio behind classics like Princess Mononoke and Howl’s Moving Castle.
Regardless, NAMCO Bandai has announced a new kind of pre-order promotion for their special “Wizard’s Edition” of the game. Currently the Wizard’s Edition includes a 300-page hardcover wizard’s companion book, a plush of one of Drippy, two DLC familiars, and a fancy box. However, as more people pre-order the edition, NAMCO Bandai will begin to add more items to the bundle.
Dubbed “Ninostarter,” a riff on Kickstarter and its tiered reward structure, this is the first time the contents of a special edition were dependent on the amount of pre-orders that special edition received. It’s a genius idea, and it most likely will make pre-orders of the Wizard’s Edition go through the roof. At this point, anyone who was going to pick up the Wizard’s Edition has no reason not to pre-order it, as your investment simply makes your purchase worth more and more. It wouldn’t be surprising if more companies end up picking up this pre-order model in the future.
