We’re only a little ways removed from the launch of the Surface, but today multiple sources within Microsoft are saying that the company is working on another, gaming-specific tablet reportedly named “Xbox Surface.”
The Verge is reporting that the Xbox Surface will be of the 7-inch variety, will run a custom version of Windows, and will sport a custom ARM processor and high-bandwidth RAM specifically created for gaming. Typical tablet functions like messaging may be supported, but the device is being built with gamers in mind. A list of specs for a potential Microsoft 7-inch tablet was released this past June.
The report also notes that the Xbox Surface would most likely be released before the launch of Microsoft’s inevitable next Xbox console.
Microsoft has declined to comment on the speculation.
