MGS 4 25th Anniversary X360 Hopes Birthed And Dashed
Metal Gear Solid 4

Perhaps it’s a bit cruel at this point to intimate that the Xbox 360 might ever see a version of Metal Gear Solid 4, the game that was supposed to be the series’ capstone. With word of a fifth title in the pipes, though, and the reveal of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, it still seems a bit dissonant that Microsoft’s console has not received, in some form, Solid Snake’s “final” outing. It has most of the others, in some form or another, and it’s getting Revengeance (in North America, at least).

So, when a New Zealand retailer sported a listing for an Xbox 360 version of the upcoming 25th anniversary edition of Metal Gear Solid 4, fans immediately perked up.

Leave it to Konami to turn those smiles to frowns.

The listing appears to have been erroneous, as a Konami representative told Eurogamer, “It’s a welcome return to the rumor, but there are no plans to release Metal Gear Solid 4 on Xbox 360.”

To be fair, “no plans” doesn’t mean it won’t ever happen, but it does mean that this listing, and any other plans we might have heard of up to this point, are complete bogus. Oh well, back to the HD Collection, then.
