Disney Infinity, the new virtual toybox from Disney Interactive, is more than just a videogame. It’s a virtual world that lets players purchase Disney figurines and utilize them in the game. Of course, for this to work you are going to need the scanner, and you’ll need the figurines themselves. This has led some fans to speculate that the game will cost a pretty penny, and they aren’t wrong.
Disney has recently revealed pricing for Disney infinity, starting with the “Infinity Base” the scanning device that will allow you to enter in your NFC enabled Disney figurines into the game. The Base will retail for $75 in the US. It will also come with three figures, Jack Sparrow, Sulley, and Mr. Incredible. Plus the set will include the Monsters Inc, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Incredible playsets, as well as the game itself.
Of course, to really expand your Disney Infinity experience, you’ll have to buy more figurines. Figures will retail for $12.99 each, or $29.99 for a pack of three. You’ll also be able to buy “power discs,” which give your figurines special moves, for $4.99. There will be 20 figurines available at launch.
So, purchasing the game and one pack of figurines will cost you over $100. Of course, it’s nothing we haven’t seen from Skylanders or other NFC toys, but it’s still a pretty penny.
