Developer MercurySteam has today revealed that a high-definition console version of Castlevnia: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate is a distinct possibility.
Dave Cox, head of Konami’s UK division, noted that every asset for the upcoming 3DS action-platformer has been constructed in using high-definition, high-polygon models, which have been subsequently pared down for the sake of the 3DS. Changes to the final version include a lowered resolution and decreased complexity in character models.
The fact that these assets do exist, though, begets cautious optimism. Cox is certainly all for it, stating that, “Absolutely, yeah. We would consider it.” The primary concern is that the game is currently under exclusive contract with Nintendo. This can change with time, though and, even if it doesn’t, the Wii U is certainly a viable avenue for an HD release of the game. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate will be hit the 3DS Tuesday, March 5.
