The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is able to track various choices made by the player over the course of the game. This allows the developer to create several, unique endings. Sometimes the ending is affected in a very small way, but other times there will be a major change.
While speaking to Polygon, Adam Badowski, managing director of CD Projekt Red, mentioned that the game will have 36 different endings. But it doesn’t stop there.
The game is also able to track player choices so well that there actually about 300 different variations of the ending.
“The game is quite complex,” Badowski said. “We didn’t mean to develop something special for the endings; it’s a natural consequence of the story line. The story has hundreds of different branches and sub plots. We have to just sum all of those elements up in the epilogues. Some of those elements are taken from the very beginning and some from the other moments of the storyline. All of them will connect in the epilogue.”
Currently, The Witcher 3 is in development for PS4, PC, and “something more maybe,” aka the next Xbox.
