Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom was one of those games that was hard to believe had been released outside of Japan. A visual novel, it contained nothing comprising what one would typically consider gameplay, but came to the PSP last year regardless. Cheat Code Central’s Becky Cunningham found its fusion of historical fiction, complex characterization, and supernatural elements compelling.
Now, Aksys is bringing its 3DS port to Western shelves as well. Retitled Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi, this edition of Hakuoki allows the player to take a picture with characters from the game as well as six new stories and a photo/movie gallery. One has to wonder if the somewhat smaller 3DS screen will do the game’s crisp, detailed art justice.
As of yet, the game does not have a release date, but given that Aksys felt ready to announce it, it can’t be too far off.
