The relaunch of Final Fantasy XIV, known as A Realm Reborn, still lacks a solid release date, though testing is ongoing. One of the big questions has been tied to the prospective PlayStation 3 release of the title, something that was promised for the original version of Final Fantasy XIV, but was continually pushed back due to the less-than-satisfactory state of the game itself.
There will be a PS3 version of A Realm Reborn, tied to the same servers as the PC edition, but those who already purchased FFXIV will have to buy the PS3 version separately. Once they have, though, it can access the same account as the PC version, allowing for characters from one account to be played on either device. Note that the account cannot be logged into by both devices at once. One or the other.
Of interest, Square Enix has specified that only one copy of A Realm Reborn may be tied to any given PSN account.
