Sad news for Nintendo fans today. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has said that he is unsure if the F-Zero series will ever make a return. Specifically, Nintendo has no idea what direction they would take the series in. "I certainly understand that people want a new F-Zero game," Miyamoto said to IGN. "I think where I struggle is that I don't really have a good idea for what's new that we could bring to F-Zero that would really turn it into a great game again."
Fan support for a new F-Zero game has gone off the charts after the reveal of Mario Kart 8. The anti-gravity segments in the new Mario Kart brought back fond memories of the same mechanics being used in F-Zero games. While Miyamoto understands the connection, he re-iterates that it doesn’t necessarily mean F-Zero will be coming back. “Certainly I can see how people looking at Mario Kart 8 could see, through the anti-gravity, a connection to F-Zero. But I don’t know, at this point, what direction we could go in with a new F-Zero.”
