If you’re a gamer, you obviously understand that best sports game in history was NHL 94. This isn’t open for discussion, folks. It’s a scientific fact, and anyone who disagrees is wrong.
NHL 14, which is set to release in a few months, will pay homage to the 20-year-old classic by including an anniversary mode. NHL 94 mode will feature classic sound clips, that iconic blue ice, the simplistic control scheme, and a complete lack of rules.
The game’s mechanics won’t turn back the clock, however. Player models will be graphically similar with NHL 14, and the rosters will all be current. While the dominance of Jeremy Roenick was mentioned, Rich Peverley was featured in a Dallas Stars jersey, acknowledging the recent trade between Dallas and Boston.
I still play NHL 94 from time to time, so I’m definitely intrigued by the callback. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s worth it to trade in Roenick, Chelios, and Belfour for Toews, Kane, and Crawford.
