Witcher 3 Writer Explains the Game’s Massive, Seamless Open World
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
CD Projekt RED has been boasting about the size of the world in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for some time now. But how big is this virtual world, really? Well, in an interview with Gamespot, story-writer Jakub Szamalek described the world as “multi-region.” Specifically, he said that there would be no software boundaries between areas. Instead, all the boundaries in The Witcher 3 will be visual. There will be a river, for example, between two landmasses, and it may be too rough to swim across. Similarly, there are whole entire continents in the world that require you to sale across oceans to get to. The team is working very hard on making The Witcher 3 as open as possible. They want to let you go anywhere you want and do whatever you want. As a result, they aren’t confining the main storyline to any location, which is a first as far as open-world RPGs go. You can pick up important pieces of information about the main story in nearly every location in the game. This way you don’t have to be diverted from your main quest just because you are doing side-quests or vice versa.
