Just in time for Halloween, a sequel to one of the greatest typing video games of all time has released! Yes, Sega has decided to release a new Typing of the Dead! Typing of the Dead: Overkill is a typing-themed adaptation of the Wii exclusive House of the Dead: Overkill.
For those of you who don’t know, Typing of the Dead is an arcade game/typing simulator based of House of the Dead 2. By typing phrases, you are able to shoot at your zombie pursuers. More difficult shots and zombies require more complex phrases, while swarms of enemies requir quick and easy phrases that come at you in rapid succession. The phrases themselves are even inside jokes that riffed on zombies and Sega games. You can still find Typing of the Dead played at gaming conventions the world around.
Now, this new sequel is updated for the modern day. The game mechanics are exactly the same, but the setting is tied to Overkill instead of House of the Dead 2. Currently, the game can only be played one-player, but a co-op two player mode will be released as a free patch sometime in the future.
Typing of the Dead: Overkill is currently retailing for $19.99, though Steam is offering a 50%-off sale through Halloween. Anyone who purchases a copy will also get the original version of The House of the Dead: Overkill absolutely free.
