Microsoft is hoping you’ll start the New Year off right by giving away more free games in the month of January via their Games with Gold program.
If you’re an Xbox Live subscriber, you’ll get both Sleeping Dogs and Lara Croft and the Guardians of Light next month for free. The Xbox Wire states that Sleeping Dogs normally retails for $19.99 and will “…take you to Hong Kong, a vibrant city whose exotic locations hide one of the most powerful and dangerous criminal organizations in the world: the Triads. You’ll play Wei Shen, an undercover cop trying to take down the Triads from the inside. You'll have to prove yourself worthy…”
The Games with Gold program was originally started by Microsoft in the early weeks leading up to the start of the console wars, where they hoped to garner some good will from gamers and draw attention away from the PS4 launch. The program that was originally expected to only run until the end of the year was extended indefinitely, and now they will continue to give away the free titles for the foreseeable future. Sony is also offering similar giveaways.
Also, if you don’t own the current reboot of Tomb Raider, you can still get your hands on Lara Croft (not that way) in Guardians of Light. On the 16th, the co-op adventure will be available for download (with Sleeping Dogs being available on the 1st). “Team up with a friend or go at it alone as you traverse and solve deadly traps, fight hordes of undead enemies, and collect over 60 artifacts and relics. “Lara Croft and the Guardians of Light” offers fast-paced action and breathtaking visuals shown through an isometric view.” Reads the Xbox Wire.
