Late last week, Blizzard Entertainment confirmed that Diablo 3 fans could now begin pre-downloading the Reaper of Souls expansion pack currently scheduled to release on March 26th. This news comes directly from a Battle.net post and states that both the Diablo 3 game launcher and Battle.net desktop app can be downloaded ahead of the next patch update.
The 6GB download includes models, textures, art files and other assets from the upcoming Reaper of Souls expansion pack. Blizzard emphasized that this download is considered a pre-expansion patch and thus more content will need to be downloaded once the pack launches late in March. The download data will partially remain in the background and won’t affect any Diablo 3 game sessions. Lastly, this download is also available to those who haven’t pre-purchased the expansion yet.
After hearing this news, I would say that this is an added bonus for Diablo 3 fans that have been waiting for this highly anticipated expansion pack. While I’m a little concerned about what the final file size will be once the full expansion pack goes live, I also fully believe that this is one detail that many people will overlook once they have the finished product on their hard drives.
Will any of you be picking up Reaper of Souls when it releases at the end of March? Please feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
