Good and bad news for the JRPG crowd today. Level 5-‘s award winning RPG, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch has shipped over 1.1 million units worldwide in just one year. Together with the Japan only DS port of the game, the franchise has shipped over 1.7 million units.
This is a time to both celebrate, and mourn our genre. 1.7 million units is quite an impressive number, but it doesn’t hold a candle to games like Call of Duty or God of War. Perhaps the wide scaling RPG just doesn’t appeal to the mass market the way it used to.
A new version of the game is going to go on sale soon. Entitled Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch All in One edition, the new version will include all of the game’s DLC, a brand new Easy Mode, and even more familiars. It is slated to go on sale in Japan on March 13th.
