The newest Persona 4 Arena Ultimax trailer shows off a character you should be familiar with, Labrys. Most of her mechanics have been retained from the first Persona 4 Arena, except she seems to have a lot more options in terms of combos now. In the trailer you can see her double dash canceling in the air for a double overhead. Considering how much range her axe has, that will be quite difficult to avoid.
However, the most interesting addition to Labrys’s character is the addition of a “shadow” mode, and this is kind of confusing. Every character in Persona 4 Arena has a shadow mode, with the exception of a few. These shadow mode characters don’t have access to bursts but do have access to wildly increased power and offensive options. Labrys, on the other hand, did have a shadow mode in the first Persona 4 Arena, which operated a little differently. Instead of summoning a persona, Labrys’s shadow was on the screen the whole time.
You can play as this form of Labrys in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, but, you can also play as a traditional shadow mode Labrys, with her persona Ariadne as well. This means there will be three forms of Labrys in the game, Labrys, Shadow Mode Labrys and Shadow Labrys. This is similar to the newest character to enter the game, Sho Minazuki, who has a form with and without a persona, and a shadow form as well.
