If you’ve seen X-Men: Days of Future Past, then you already know that Wolverine’s time traveling escapades hit the reset button on many events in the original trilogies past. Not only did we see the return of Professor X and Cyclops, but Jean Grey as well!
Famke Janssen recently spoke with SuperHeroHype and explained why she had to lie when asked about her character, revealing she had already shot several scenes the last time they spoke. “I'm a really good liar it turns out. By then I'd already filmed it. I was sworn to secrecy that's all. I'm not really keen on lying and I have a lot of problem with people who come into my life and lie, but if I'm forced to do it, it does not come easy. There has been two moments now, with ‘Wolverine' and with ‘X-Men' movies, especially ‘Days of Future Past' where I was sworn to secrecy so I kept my word.” Said the actress.
Janssen also reveals how easy it was for her to slip back into her role as Jean, with the franchise sporting such a strong roster of female characters. “…there are as many female characters as there are male, which doesn't seem to be the case most of the time.” She says. “A lot of these comic book adaptations aren't necessarily like that a lot of the time, the women's parts are essentially the girlfriends or whatever. So it's really nice to play the scientist, doctor or a strong interesting character.”
While it is uncertain if her character will return in future sequels (or be recast with a younger actress ala First Class), you can see Janssen as Jean/Phoenix in X-Men: Days of Future past, now in theaters.
