For the most part, films pulling from the deep well of Marvel characters have had a pretty good track record at the box office. However, not all can be winners. Fantastic Four is a fairly good example.
While I don’t necessarily think they were as bad as some make out (I liked Rise of the Silver Surfer by the way) many pan the originals as a missed opportunity in telling the story of one of comic’s most believed teams. In the remake, things will be a bit different. Michael B. Jordan (who’s out of the box casting of an African America actor as Johnny Storm has risen more than a few eyebrows as of late) revealed how he plans to approach the role in his attempt at reimaging it. “Johnny Storm is such an iconic character. There’s a lot of personality traits and things to him that people are really going to look forward to seeing. Got a lot of original Johnny stuff in there and then you have, not a NEW take but a fresh take. We have a different take on different things as well.” he states.
Of course, no matter how good the newcomer may be as the latest Human Torch, the comparisons to Chris Evans are inevitable (who later transitioned into his Captain America role). Jordan did get a chance to speak with Evans regarding his casting, who said, “…Man I can’t give you anything. You’re great, you’re awesome. Just do your thing. And enjoy it. It’s gonna be fun.”
Kind words that any actor would love to hear from their predecessor to be sure! The new Fantastic Four film is set to hit theaters next Summer.
