Overwatch's Hanzo Gets His Own Church
Overwatch

I love weird news just as much as the rest of us, and this one definitely caught my eye. It would appear that an Overwatch fan in Brazil by the name of Mateus Mognon has created a church devoted to one of the game's characters. Mognon was trying to prove how easy it is to create a church in Brazil to take advantage of the tax immunity granted to temples of worship. Therefore, he created the Hanzo National Church.

The Hanzo National Church was thought up on April 17, 2017 and was officially registered on June 14. It's based in a friend of Mognon's apartment in San Jose and their motto is “daring and joy.” They “preach peace and harmony on the Internet and online communities.” There are other articles within the church rules, but most notable is that they allow members of the church time to play Overwatch and recommend that they consume caloric foods.

It sounds like a gamer's dream, but it all boils down to the same jarring concept of how easy it is to make a church in Brazil. Mognon only needed five people to sign paperwork, a lawyer's signature, a physical location, and a bit of money to create the Hanzo National Church. It's a little disturbing and explains why the punishment for abusing this system could land you up to 15 years in prison.

If you had the option, would you worship Hanzo or any of the other Overwatch characters?
