EA Confirms Battlefield V Has a Premium Currency
Battlefield V

During the Battlefield V reveal event, DICE told the world that there would be no season or battle passes, nor would there be loot boxes or gameplay-relevant purchases in the game. The implication was that there would be some purchasing element, but that was glossed over, and EA said there would be more announced later. After being pressed however, EA representatives have confirmed the presence of a premium currency.

The currency will be real-money based, and it will be used to purchase cosmetic items. Anything gameplay-adjacent, such as weapons, etc., will be unlockable through a separate “grind currency” as the reps called it, which would be the one earned purely through playing the game.

Of course, fueling these purchases and cosmetic items is an overhaul of the “look” of Battlefield V in multiplayer, which will feature tons of character customization elements. Of course, that has fueled some Internet controversy, as the announcement trailer heavily alluded to this part of the game which has sparked a lot of discourse about “historical accuracy.”
