While Activision and Treyarch have been keeping most of the laundry list of evil villains under lock and key for their Ultimate Spider-Man game (due for a late Sept 2005 release across the PS2, Xbox and GameCube platforms) it appears that their attempts have been foiled by an unsuspected source: their own marketing department.
Spiderfans will be able to select from the regular version or an enhanced Limited Edition. Listed on EBGames.com, the Limited Edition is said to come with:
- G4 Special: Making of Ultimate Spider-Man
- Exclusive interview with Stan Lee
- Character bios: Spider-Man, Venom, Beetle and Carnage
- Developer tricks and tips
- Special Edition Ultimate Spider-Man Comic Book
Observant readers will notice Cletus Kasady’s more maniacal alter-ego mentioned under Character Bios. Since we know that Spider-Man, Venom, and Beetle (Rhino as well) will be appearing in the game, it’s not farfetched to assume Carnage will also be appearing.
Ultimate Spider-Man is set in the Ultimate Marvel Universe which is an alternate reality to the 616 Universe (where the regular Marvel comics reside such as the Amazing Spider-Man, where Peter Parker is an adult). The USM game developed by Treyarch and authored by Brian Michael Bendis with artistic direction from seminal USM artist Mark Bagley will feature a 15 year old Peter Parker coming to terms with his powers and will also give players the chance to play as Venom.
USM is currently slated for release on September 26th.
