Epic Confirms New Unreal Tournament Not Happening

Before the days of Call of Duty and Battlefield there was Counter Strike and Unreal Tournament . While many might long for a return to those fun days, Epic recently confirmed that it has no plans for a new release in the franchise.

Epic boss Tim Sweeney spoke at a panel at this year’s Gamer Develops Conference and had this to say about the icon series: “We’re not planning on shipping an Unreal Tournament game. We have a lot of nostalgia for the game, but we’re actually not developing anything in the Unreal game universe at all at the moment.” he reveals (much to the chagrin of fans).

Of course, just because Unreal Tournament isn’t on the fast track to a new release, doesn’t mean that Epic is resting on their laurels. They’ve kept several irons in the fire as of late, one specifically by the name of Fortnite (briefly touched on during the panel). “We’ve announced Fortnite …That’s a game we’ll be talking about later. We don’t have anything to show you here at GDC. We’re developing that project and there are several other projects that aren’t announced yet that are being developed with Unreal Engine 4.” Touts Sweeney.

Also, the fourth iteration of this generations Unreal Engine was on-hand as well, including info regarding a monthly developer subscription clocking in at just under $20.
