Atari Shifts Focuses Again

Atari Shifts Focuses Again

It wasn’t long ago that we heard that Atari, the classic game company that really ushered in a new age of gaming, was going to go in a different direction. First, they said that they would focus on lifestyle technology, like wearable smart watches. Now, however, it looks like they are changing directions yet again to focus on digital games, online gambling, and licensing out what properties they have left.

Atari recently emerged from chapter 11 bankruptcy and will be making this switch in order to try and shift the company to an area where profit still lies. Of course, this involves mobile gaming, as well as a small dip into PC gaming. Atari will be leveraging its classic IPs such as Asteroids, Centipede, and Pong and will be making them accessible on iOS, Android and windows PC.

Atari will also attempt to “capitalize on rapidly growing markets and reach out to new audiences.” They noted that this means they will be making a Youtube publishing push, though it’s not clear how, and they will reach out to members of the LGBT community… though it is also unclear how. Perhaps a gay pride pong?
