Capcom Looking into More Remakes and Re-Releases

Capcom Looking into More Remakes and Re-Releases

The response to the Resident Evil 2 remake from Capcom has been pretty wild ever since the maddeningly hyped reveal trailer at E3 2018. This game has sales numbers written all over it, and Capcom can smell the money. In fact, in the company’s latest quarterly earnings call, Capcom reps outright confirmed that the plan is to mine older IP for more remakes and re-releases.

The major quote, translated from Japanese, is, “Further, regarding remakes and re-releases of titles in our back catalog, we expect to explore these further with a variety of properties as a part of our strategy to utilize our library of IP.” It’s pretty obvious that it intends to tap into nostalgia while it can.

It sounds like some long-dormant Capcom properties might be making their own comebacks. It’s been a while since the likes of Dino Crisis , Breath of Fire , and Power Stone have made any noise, so those are my votes. Please Capcom, do a Breath of Fire thing. I asked nicely! An Onimusha collection would be dope, too.

Capcom also spoke to things like plans for new mobile games. It also noted that the announcements of Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 inspired recent sales boosts for previous games in the series.
