Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey Has a Mercenary System

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey Has a Mercenary System

A report from Game Informer details a new feature in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey . It’s all about mercenaries, and the finer details of how it works may sound a bit familiar to Lord of the Rings fans.

In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey , players start the game with a roster of 50 mercenaries. Some of them are deliberately created by the developers, and others are randomly generated. Each one has its own set of abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and equipment. As the player’s reputation builds up, the mercenaries will start to seek them out. You can pay them off to make them leave you alone, or take on the challenge of fighting them to the death. It’s a bit of an evolution of the Phylakes from the previous game, with a dash of the infamous Nemesis system from Shadow of War .

Once you defeat a mercenary, you can either kill them, or hire them to work for you. They’ll join your crew on your ship, and provide bonuses like the gear they were wearing, or perks for your ship. You’ll also be able to summon an ally to help you on foot with the Call to Arms ability.
