Blizzard Plans to Create More Mobile Games

We’re still in the middle of the bizarre fallout from Blizzard announcing Diablo Immortal during its BlizzCon 2018 opening ceremonies, an outsourced mobile game that many fans have loudly rejected. While the dust is still settling there, a press conference hosted by Blizzard Co-Founder Allen Adham led to a new statement that confirms the company is all-in with mobile gaming.

Here’s the quote, which comes in at about two minutes into the source video linked at the bottom of this article:

In terms of Blizzard’s approach to mobile gaming, many of us over the last few years have shifted from playing primarily desktop to playing many hours on mobile, and we have many of our best developers now working on new mobile titles across all of our IPs. Some of them are with external partners, like Diablo: Immortal; many of them are being developed internally only, and we’ll have information to share on those in the future. I will say also that we have more new products in development today at Blizzard than we’ve ever had in our history and our future is very bright.

This is pretty wild. Adham says that there are mobile game in the works across “all” of Blizzard’s IPs, which suggests something is in the works for at least all of the company’s major properties, including Overwatch . Additionally, not all of them are being outsourced.

How this shakes out will be interesting to see, but it’s hard to imagine the folks fuming about Diablo Immortal will care too much about what the full game looks like.
