The Uncharted Movie Lost Another Director

The Uncharted Movie Lost Another Director

The Uncharted movie can’t catch a break. Another setback has hit it. Yet another director has taken off. This time, it is Dan Trachtenberg leaving the project. Previously, he directed 10 Cloverfield Lane, the Warframe 2019 game introduction, and the Black Mirror Playtest episode. No reason was offered for his departure.

There have been many directors that have been attached to this Uncharted movie. The first director attached was David O. Russell. He left the project in 2011. Seth Gordon joined it in 2014, but he left a year later in 2015. In 2016, Shawn Levy was brought on. Then, he left in 2018. Trachtenberg was only announced as the most recent addition back in January 2019.

But, that’s nothing compared to how many script writers the Uncharted movie has gone through. Initially, Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer were supposed to write it. Then, David O. Russell was supposed to. Once Russell left as a director and writer, Neil Burger was pulled in. Marianne and Cormac Wibberley were the next duo on it, but then they were replaced by David Guggenheim. But he didn’t last, because then Mark Boal was made the new scriptwriter. Finally, in 2016, Joe Carnahan was brought on to write the script and, since there has been no further news, it looks like that is the one the movie will eventually use. All that happened between 2008 and 2016, by the way.

On the plus side, at least the Uncharted movie still has its Nathan Drake! Tom Holland is still going to star in the movie. Which, naturally, means this will be an early story or prequel looking at a younger version of the globetrotter we know and love.
