Grimes Spoiled Her Cyberpunk 2077 Character’s Backstory

Grimes Spoiled Her Cyberpunk 2077 Character’s Backstory

There are two important, conflicting practices in the video games industry. The first is casting famous actors or musicians in voice acting roles. These usually aren’t the main characters, but are often inserted purposefully to stand out. The second is that the games industry is extremely sensitive about disseminating information. Few other media spaces are as secretive, so talent leaking things or spoiling secrets totally by accident happens fairly often. One particularly amusing example happened this week, as Grimes unloaded some significant (and striking; content warning by the way) details about her Cyberpunk 2077 character during a livestream.

The livestream archive has since been taken down, but nothing truly leaves the internet. There’s a spoiler warning that naturally goes along with this story. So if you’re interested in knowing what Grimes said, you can find a quote below courtesy of a user on Reddit.

“I did my voice acting for Lizzy Wizzy; that game is going to be fucking good. I mean I haven’t played it, but I saw someone play an hour of the game. The game was fantastic, and I play a pop star who committed suicide on stage. And they had to quickly come and perform emergency surgery and replace her whole body with cybernetics while she was dead for an hour. And then she finished the show as a cyborg. One of the greatest pieces of performance art ever made.”

That sure is some wild video game stuff. It’s probably safe to assume that when Cyberpunk 2077 launches on September 17, 2020, Grimes’ onstage… antics will only be the tip of the iceberg.
