IGN Expo Day One Brings E3-Style News and Updates to Quarantined Gamers ( via IGN )
E3 may have been cancelled, but several organizations and outlets have come together to keep bringing us video game news during the summer. IGN was up first to bat with its ongoing Summer of Gaming event, which includes the E3-like IGN Expo. The first night included new game announcements, interviews, updates, and more. In case you missed it, we’re here to break it down for you.
The first new game announced was Metal: Hellsinger . This game somehow combines the manic FPS energy of DOOM with… a music rhythm game? The aiming reticle appears to bounce along with the music, and taking actions during the right moments boosts your score. Hellsinger features vocals from several real-life metal band artists, and will be headed to current and next-gen consoles.
Sega heads will love the next big announcement, which is a full remake of Master System classic Alex Kidd in Miracle World . Merge Games added a DX to the title, which comes with a massive facelift in the visual department, as well as new features and even new levels. Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX is aiming for an early 2021 release for current gen platforms.
The third reveal was Demon Turf , a 3D platformer from the developers of indie hit Slime-San . Demon Turf is a game inspired by the likes of Mario 64 , but with a unique visual style that combines over the shoulder 3D structure with 2D, animated character art. It looks pretty wild, and has tons of different abilities to play with.
In addition to the new games, we also saw some new gameplay presentations from upcoming titles we already knew about. Sega showed off Yakuza: Like a Dragon , giving us a more in-depth look at its wacky turn-based RPG style. We saw a new “soulslike” called Mortal Shell , which will have a closed beta test running in July 2020. Observer: System Redux , a next-gen update of cyberpunk horror-adventure Observer , saw a gameplay debut, which includes 4K textures, HDR, and ray-tracing.
That’s the big stuff, but there was a lot more including a console version of Chivalry 2 , a preview of the next Borderlands 3 DLC, and more. We have a feeling the announcements will only get bigger as the week goes on, so stay tuned for more news wrap-ups and opinions from the CheatCC team.
