Rumors swirl around John Romero leaving Midway Games. Romero was the designer of Doom, Doom II, and Quake. He was also the end game boss in Doom II. It has been confirmed that Romero is no longer with Midway Games, but the circumstances around him leaving are still unclear. He could have quit, but some believe he was fired.
Romero has been known in the past for a temper that has gotten him in many internal company conflicts.
At the time that he left Midway, Romero was Creative Director for Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows. The game is still scheduled for a fall release despite Romero’s departure.
