Here’s Why the Breath of the Wild Sequel Exists
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Nintendo revealed at E3 2019 that the company is working on a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel. We got to see Link and Zelda in that version of Hyrule again, after the events of the game. Zelda even had short hair, suggesting it jumped forward a bit in time, and we saw a sealed Ganon mummy. But now, Producer Eiji Aonuma has explained why exactly there is going to be a sequel to Kotaku. It all came down to DLC.

Aonuma explained that the team kept coming up with ideas for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. After a while, there came to be so much that add-ons weren’t feasible. Something more was needed to essentially make the visions come to life. That’s when the idea of an actual sequel ended up coming up.

Here is the statement Aonuma provided about the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel.

“Initially we were thinking of just DLC ideas, but then we had a lot of ideas and we said, ‘This is too many ideas, let’s just make one new game and start from scratch.’”

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did receive a substantial amount of DLC after launch. There was a The Master Trials pack with The Trial of the Sword, Master Mode, Hero's Path Mode and equipment and The Champions’ Ballad, which added a new dungeon, new quests, a Master Cycle Zero motorcycle, and new equipment.
