Bill Gates will Support Microsoft CEO with Spin-offs

Bill Gates will Support Microsoft CEO with Spin-offs

In an interview with Fox Business ,  published on Monday, May 8, Microsoft co-founder William Henry “Bill” Gates III claimed that he would support Microsoft with a spin-off if the company’s new CEO, Satya Nadella, proposed one–like spinning off the company’s Xbox division.

According to the interview, Gates has been helping Nadella transition into his new role, but, while he does offer support for spin-offs, he didn’t foresee either Bing or Xbox as stand-alone companies–he claims that they are a part of Microsoft’s long-term strategy.

When asked about separating Bing and Xox from the company, Gates said that separating the company’s gaming division from Microsoft isn’t necessarily an “ obvious ” move.

Well, we’re taking PC gaming–Windows gaming–and Xbox gaming and bringing those a lot closer together, ” Gates said. ” The power of the PC graphics chips means you can do great games there. So I’m sure Satya and the team will look at that, and, you know, it’s up to them. But we’re going to have an overall gaming strategy, so it’s not as obvious as you might think.

When asked if he would support Nadella if he wanted to spin off the Xbox division, Gate’s response was an affirmative “ absolutely.

Microsoft recently noticed a fan-made user interface for the Xbox One console, and it made such an impression that Major Nelson shared it around. One of the Xbox One’s many UI updates has included a redesigned reputation system. Major Nelson also confirmed that game preloads are currently being considered as an option for the Xbox One. While he wouldn’t give any further details on whether or not this feature will actually be introduced to the console, he did mention that it might be possible later down the line.

Microsoft has also clarified on the new TV content that’ll soon be arriving on the Xbox One, revealing that while the company is refocusing its efforts on making the Xbox One the console of this generation, it also has room to incorporate new content to the console–like its TV line-up . Xbox Entertainment Studios will also be co-producing a new drama for the Xbox One, titled “ Humans ”. TV content for the Xbox One was confirmed back in December, 2013.
