New Pokémon Mega Evolutions and More Revealed

New Pokémon Mega Evolutions and More Revealed

As detailed on a press release published on Monday, August 11, both the Pokémon Company International and Nintendo have announced a special launch giveaway for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire , as well as new Mega Evolutions and more.

The launch giveaway in question will be a special Shiny Beldum, which’ll be holding a Metagrossite Mega Stone. This Shiny Beldum, like most other Shiny pokémon, will carry on its Shininess into is evolutions, so you’ll also receive a Shiny Metang and a Shiny Metagross through it.

The Shiny Beldum will be part of Pokémon Omega Ruby’s and Alpha Sapphire’s launch window on Friday, November 28, in Europe. Details on a North American equivalent were not detailed in the press release.

In addition to the Shiny Beldum, the new Mega Evolutions that were announced are of Altaria, Salamence and Lopunny. In their respective Mega Evolved forms, Mega Alteria becomes a Dragon- and Fairy-type and receives the Pixelate Ability, which changes Normal-type moves into Fairy-type moves; Mega Salamence’s Defense stat skyrockets and receive the Aerilate Ability, which turns Normal-type moves into Flying-type moves; and Mega Lopunny receives the Scrappy Ability, which makes Ghost-type pokémon vulnerable to its Normal-type and Fighting-type moves.

Two of the three pokémon also receive additional stat-boosts once in their Mega Evolved form: Mega Altaria gets a big boost in its Attack and Special Attack, as well as in Defence. Mega Lopunny receives a boost to its Attack and Speed stats.

Furthermore, new details regarding Pokémon Omega Ruby’s and Alpha Sapphire’s Contest feature were also revealed. Once players reach the Hoenn region’s Pokémon Content Spectacular, they’ll be able to enter their pokémon into five different contest categories: Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness and Toughness. The participating pokémon will be judged accordingly in each of these categories respectively, much like how they were in the original Pokémon Ruby , Sapphire and Emerald .

After entering the Contest for the first time, players will receive their own Cosplay Pikachu, which will have its own unique movesets that regular Pikachus do not have. For example, Pikachu Rock Star will know the Steel-type move “Meteor Mash”; the Pikachu Pop Star will know the Fairy-type move that’s effective Dragon-types, “Draining Kiss”; the Pikachu, Ph.D can learn the Electric-type move “Electric Terrain”; Pikachu Belle can learn the Ice-type move “Icicle Crash”; and Pikachu Libre can fight with the Fighting-type move “Flying Press”.

What’s more is that players will also be able to enter their pokémon in multiplayer contests against friends, take photos of each show, and build a following of in-game fans that’ll appear at each Contest Hall entrance–who’ll help the player’s pokémon win future contests.

Finally, it has been confirmed that Pokémon X’s and Y’s popular Horde Encounter feature will return in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire . However, this time the Horde Encounters will not be limited to just wild pokémon; players will now have Horde Encounters with opposing Trainers, who can appear in groups up to give–and provide additional Experience Points to boost, too.

We’ve also established that Secret Bases will also make a return in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire , along with additional enhancements and extra goodies, too.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire wil l launch in the US on Friday, November 21 . A European release is slated for the following week on Friday, November 28.
